I've been in a funk

I've haven't been around much the last week and I am sorry. I've been in a funk.  I shouldn't be. Work is busier than ever since my useless co-worker got "let go" but I got to rearrange the office to make myself happy. The holidays are hear and I love them. Christmas and all the pretty decorations and lights are so magical.

Thanksgiving was great, last year my mother had just  came home from what would end up being the 1st of four hospital visits where we almost lost her and I was giving her IV meds 3x daily, this year she was home and even did the Turkey......but later that night we were texting and somehow kids came up and she told me I should adopt, that hubby and I would be great parents....I can't seem to get her to understand it's ALOT of money and time to adopt (when my uncle adopted my cousins it was $500 and she has that stuck in her head)

Then Friday morning I was at work and realized it was 3 years to the day that I had started my first and only IVF. I had been so excited and full of hope that day. Even walking around with 32 follicles growing inside me, while uncomfortable as hell, was also thrilling. 23 Eggs were retrieved, 13 fertilized and only 4 made it to transfer.

I remember coming home from the transfer and having this overwhelming feeling of wonder.....that there could possibly be 4 lives growing inside me. I remember 2 weeks later sobbing on my husband when I was told to stop taking the progesterone, I wasn't pregnant.
I had no embryos left for a frozen transfer and I'm STILL paying on the IVF itself. In retrospect I'm wondering if my Reproductive Endocrinologist was the best.

Alot of people will think, it's been 3 yrs, aren't you over it? No, I'm not. I probably never will be, I just think about it less now.The holidays are hard, when every single commercial on TV has adorable kids, kids toys, babies and feaking Santa Claus. At least when my step daughter was young there was a child in the house for the holidays. Now she is 20 and would way rather be with her boyfriend than hanging with us and there is something just a little sad about a holiday without kids.

Also, while I do sometimes review kids stuff with my neices and enjoy doing so, I am so sick and tired of getting pitch emails from people with stuff like "as a busy mom" "as a mom blogger" "your kids"
Just because I do product reviews does not make me a mommy blogger (not that there is anything wrong with mommy bloggers) and I can't be the only one that gets those emails and clicks delete and offers up the proverbial finger.

Anyway, I guess I just need to get that out. I do have some great reviews and giveaways to put up this week and some winners to announce. I've told myself I am not allowed to cry and wallow in self pity as of tomorrow morning, so I still have tonight left

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tom's of Maine. All opinions are 100% mine.

For more than 40 years,  Tom's Of Maine, a leading natural products company that focuses on oral and personal care products, has been committed to helping people, communities and the planet. They use earth friendly products for packaging, do not test on animals and donate 10% of profits to charitable organizations. If that isn't enough to make you take a second look at them, then let me tell you a little about one or two of their products.

Tom's makes a Wicked Fresh! Toothpaste, which uses powerful natural flavor oils and a patent pending botanical extract to leave you with long lasting fresh breath and sparkly clean teeth. Holiday Gift Guide- Glee Gum Make Your Own Chocolate Kit- Review & Giveaway

About Glee Gum Candy Kits:

Connect kids to the global community by tracing the origins of raw materials we encounter in our daily lives. Our gum kit uses natural chicle. Our chocolate kit includes organic cocoa butter from Costa Rica, and the gummy kit contains carrageenan made from seaweed from the Philippines.
Create something exciting and delicious. At Verve, we believe people learn by doing. By creating delicious edible treats with our kits, kids also create connections to each other, between various fields of studies, and to other communities and cultures.
Captivate kids' interest. Kids have always loved to stir, mix, touch and taste our great activity kits. Now children can make yummy treats while learning about: the rainforest, ethnobotany, chemistry, mathematics and measurement, ecology and environmental
I contacted Glee Gum about possibly reviewing one of their Make Your Own Kits thinking that it would be a fun thing to do with my 10 year old niece, since she spends so much time at my house. At the time however, I didn't realize how educational for both of us it would actually be! I was given a choice of the Chewing Gum, Gummies or Chocolate Kit and I choose the chocolate for us to do.

It came in a cute little box that looks exactly like the picture. The box was small and I immediately thought, great, I'm going to have to go out and find a bunch of ingredients so we can make this. Wrong! Amazingly, everything you need is included in the box! Hallelujah! I hate when I get something for an activity with her only to find out when we open it up that we are missing half of what we need!
Included in the box:
~certified organic cocoa butter
~cocoa powder
~confectioner's sugar
~starter crystals
~a temperature indicator
~paper candy liners
~instructions and the story of chocolate

We had fun reading the story together and then setting out all the ingredients and following the easy, step by step instructions to create our chocolate treats. You can use either the stove or the microwave. I choose the stove because (in my opinion) it's more fun to create something on the stove AND she learns skills besides "nuking" something. You can add extras like nuts, peanut butter, marshmallows and raisins to your chocolates if you like and since I had some leftover peanut butter chips in the cupboard we used those. Our final results were delicious and she was very proud of her efforts.

This is not an easy bake type of kit. It is a real, make chocolate from scratch kind of kit. Even though she is 10 and pretty darn smart, we went through each step together. I wouldn't recommend it for small children as reading, following instructions and dealing with hot items is required. I do very highly recommend this as an activity for a 9-12 child with supervision and teens would be fine on their own. It was a great learning activity, that we had fun doing AND got to eat chocolate afterwards!

BUY IT: These kits will make great holiday gifts for children (recommended ages 8+). A fun activity for a snowy winter day and you'll be pleased that they learn something too! Kits are $13 and can be ordered online or found at select retailers.

WIN IT: Glee Gum is going to provide one of my readers with a Make Your Own Kit of their choice: Make Your Own Chewing Gum, Make Your Own Gummies or Make Your Own Chocolate

Holiday Gift Guide-CoverYourHair.com-Review & Giveaway

I believe I have mentioned in the past, maybe once, that I have alot of crazy hair. Crazy long hair that I refuse to cut short but hate having it hang in my face. So I am always looking for a cute accessory to help me tame the mane and love shopping at CoverYourHair.com, they have an amazing selection of hair clips, headbands, baby headbands, hair accessories and more! This is not my first time reviewing for them and if you are interested you can check out the first one here.

This time around I told them to surprise me and was sent an adorable Flower Beret in brown. It is very well made with no loose or unraveling threads and stretches just enough. I love the jaunty look the flower adds and the hint of metallic in it. A one size fits all piece that looks custom made for you. It is a warm and cozy cap and I can't wait for it to be just a wee bit colder so I can wear it more often!

Shopping at the CoverYourHair website is extremely easy, as you can shop by item or even by color which is a great feature. Say you are shopping for a person who will only wear pink, easy peasy! You can see every pink item they have! Holiday Gift Guide-Auric Blends-Review & Giveaway

About Auric Blends:
Since 1993 Auric Blends has been captivating women and men with our creative line of fragrance products. Our perfumes and incense are handcrafted and always made from the highest quality ingredients from around the world. We invite you to enjoy what millions of people worldwide have come to know and love as their favorite fragrance line.
Auric Blends is located in the small, historic town of Graton in Northern California. (When we say small, we mean it. Graton has only one main street, and about 1800 people call it home!) We are surrounded by vineyards, redwood trees and the cool coastal air that comes in from neighboring Bodega Bay. It’s a majestic and beautiful place that inspires us to create.

I personally adore "smelly stuff". Candles, lotions, oils, incense, I love it all and can't walk by it in a store without stopping to sniff. Unfortunately, many perfumes bother me  and I have very few in my collection. I find many spray perfumes to be overpowering and cloying, making me sneeze and giving me a headache.  When I read about Auric Blends and learned about their roll on perfume oils and perfume solids, made with only the finest ingredients available, I thought I have to try these!

I was sent a sampling selection of their most popular roll on perfume oils and solids to review and can certainly see why they are so popular.
Each of the roll on perfumes is hand blended with exotic ingredients imported from around the world and award winning oils.
I have to say that several of the ones I received I absolutely adore and couldn't have picked better scents myself! "Love" has elements of both Egyptian Goddess and White amber and is a warm scent that is perfect for fall and winter. I adore this one and have been wearing it constantly, it is definitely one of my favorites! Water Goddess reminds me of a summer night, while Desert Night and Egyptian Goddess are a little muskier and seem "sexier" to me. With over 39 different scents ranging from floral and fruit to oriental and fresh fragrances, I can't imagine someone not finding a favorite or two.

Auric Blends Naturals is a 100% natural line of roll ons made with essential oils and other rare flowers, sweet fruits, natural refined woods and clean citrus in a base of jojoba and vitamin E oils. I tried two of these, Layla and Siren. While the Layla was a little too flowery for me, I adore the Siren. It has top notes of Lemon Oil, Lavender & Chamomile; Heart notes of Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Palmarosa & Thyme and base notes of Vanilla and Balsamic. To me it is a perfect blend, very refreshing. Relaxing and yet energizing and the same time.

I was also sent two of the solids, a rich, textured perfume in a beeswax and coconut oil base; which come in gorgeous, carved soapstone containers. They are both wonderful scents and the Black Coconut solid just screams summertime to me and makes me think of beaches and warm summer nights while the White Gardenia reminds me of spring time and flowers blooming.

I have really enjoyed reviewing these products and will continue to use them in the future and recommend them to friends and family!

BUY IT: You can find a huge selection of perfume oils, solids, incense, several coordinating scented candles and more. Perfume roll ons start at $7.00, the naturals start at $11.95, solids at $8.00. A little goes a long way and the price is phenomenal for the quality of product you are getting. A great gift idea, I personally will be picking up several of these items for my sister in laws for Christmas.

WIN IT: Auric Blends is going to give 3 of my readers a perfume of their own to try. Definitely a chance you don't want to pass by!

Skillet Bacon Jam Review

Right about now I imagine you are asking "What in the heck is Skillet Bacon Jam?"  I know when I saw the name that is the first thing I thought.
Skillet Bacon Jam is actually a bacon spread made from high quality bacon, rendered down with niman ranch,  onions, balsamic and various other spices. After cooking for around 6 hours it is given a quick turn in a food processor and then blast chilled and voila, bacon jam.

Now I am pretty sure you are asking "What the heck do you use it for?", since that was my next question.
It can be used on burgers, grilled cheese, Philly steak sandwiches, just to name a few things.
I was intrigued, so I signed up to do a review. When my sample came in the mail I opened it up, took one look and immediately thought, ewwwww.

Luckily I have a husband that will try pretty much anything at least once and when he got home from work, I pawned it off on him. He opened and in typical man fashion, dunked a finger in it. I watched his face and his eyebrows went up, but he also went back for another taste. Surprise, he thought it was really good. He also proceeded to nag me until I tasted it, so I gave in oh so ungracefully.

I was truly impressed with the variety of flavors. Primary was the smokey bacon with a sweet onion background and a hint of ranch.
Hubby has been spreading this on some homemade sliders and loving it! I tried it on a Philly cheesesteak sandwich I made the other night and really enjoyed the unique flavor it brings. Overall we really thought highly of our sample of Bacon Jam and feel it added a unique, savory flavor to the items we used it on.  I'm not saying our cholesterol or waistlines could handle it on everything, but it is a great treat for the taste buds, turning a regular burger into a gourmet burger.

You can learn more about this unique condiment at www.skilletbaconjam.com

Baby Formula: Store Brand vs. Name Brand

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am well aware that "breast is best" for a baby, but in many cases and for many different reasons it is not possible for a woman to breast feed their child. If you are not able to breast feed then you definitely want the best formula out there for your child and for many people they would go automatically to a name brand like Similac.

However, according to author Sandra Gordon and the editors at Consumer Reports, "All formula marketed in the US must meet the same nutrient specifications, which are set (by the F.D.A. in 1980) at levels to fulfill the needs of infants."

Store brand formula tends to less expensive than name brand formula because they are not as heavily marketed, advertised or given away to hospitals for free. If a company saves money on marketing, then they are able to pass that savings onto the consumer. A new parent using store brand formula can save an average of $600 per year. In these tough economic times, $600 is a large amount of money, especially if one person is on a maternity leave and experiencing lost income!

Additionly, Abbot voluntarily recalled certain Similac powdered formulas last month due to the presence of a small common beetle in the product. While the FDA determined th that it was not harmful to infants it could cause gastroinestinal discomfort and a refusal to eat do the discomfort.

Breast feeding is best for your child but if for some reason that is not feasible, remember that you have different options available.

Dear Glade & a Follow Me Back Tuesday

Dear Glade,

CVS was having a sale and I had coupons so I splurged and bought one of your new Sense and Spray in the granite look. I took it home and eagerly set it on the shelf in the living room, it smells great and looks good. It is also causing me to loose what little I have left of my mind. When someone walks in the general vicinity it goes off, which is great. Unfortunately, it also goes off if one my 8lb dogs walks past, but I can deal with that.
What is driving me nuts is the noise. It took me hours to figure what the heck it was. When it sprays you hear the "poof" which is okay, but then, THEN it makes a noise like someone kicked Gizmo the Gremlin across the room and he is pissed! The hubby, having no idea I purchased said posessed air freshener was searching all over the room for what the hell was "talking".
It kinda goes like this: "Poof" errr, wacka wonko squee. Every. Damn. Time.
I do love the scent and since I bought a refill pack for it at the same time I guess I will have to get used to it and stop thinking my house has ghosts every time one of the four dogs walks by it..........

Holiday Gift Guide-Grilling4All Popper Set- Review & Giveaway

POPPER SET REVIEW

Steven Raichlen is the author of Planet Barbecue!, The Barbecue Bible-10th Anniversary Edition, How To Grill and Raichlen on Ribs. He also hosts Primal Grill and BBQ university on Public Television. His store, www.grilling4all.com, includes the complete line of Best Barbecue Products, which have been designed to make easier, more professional and more fun. With items like the Creme Brulee Grill Kit, the Lumatong with grab light  and the "flavors and fuels" it is a grill lovers shopping paradise!

I was sent several items for the hubby and I to review and I can't tell you how excited we were waiting for them to arrive! Since there is quite a bit of info and pictures to include, I am separating them into two separate posts. Plus, these products both deserve their own reviews!

Stainless Chili Pepper Roasting Rack with Corer Review:
Since that is such a  mouthful to type, from here on out it will be oh so fondly referred to as the Popper Set, okay?
The hubby and I adore spicy foods and love hot peppers of every kind, yet I never thought of making my own poppers on the grill. Maybe because in the back of my head I realized all the good stuff would slide out and I'd be left with a warm pepper and really, what fun is that?
The Stainless Chili Pepper Roasting rack takes care of that problem for me, and since nothing else was holding me back I went off to the store for a variety of ingredients. Laid everything out and was ready to rock!
First let me just say that the Pepper Corer that comes in this set is the bomb. Once I figured out I was supposed to use the serrated edge to lop of the top of the pepper instead of just jamming it in, things went so smooth (so sue me, I don't like reading directions!) Anyway, cut the top of the popper off with the serrated edge, then insert the pointy part into the pepper, twist and pull back out and you have a cored pepper, without using a knife and poking a bunch of holes in the pepper. Plus it comes with its own handy cover so you don't lop off a finger when you are looking for it in your drawer.

The rack itself is a very sturdy stainless steel rack that is not going to bend or warp with use and holds up to 18 peppers. The wonderful part of this rack is that after you clean and core your peppers you place them in the holes on the counter and then stuff them, no rolling around or slipping out of your hand and the filling spilling all over. After choosing your ingredient simply carry it out and place it on the grill until your filling is gooey and melty! You will have a crisp, crunchy outside and a warm, gooey inside and the sky is the limit on filling choices.
We choose cream cheese for a couple, some Johnsonville sausage bites and jack cheese for a couple and Velveeta for a couple. Next time I am totally getting more adventurous and trying some different recipes! Did I mention? These don't count as bad calories since you are grilling instead of deep frying (that's my outlook and I am sticking with it!)

Definitely check out www.grilling4all.com for your holiday hard to shop fors! I know a couple of people that are going to be easily checked off my gift list this year! They even have a gift registry, how cool is that?
